How Women Can Save Money

Learning to manage, and take control of your finances gets easier over time.

However, getting to a place where you know where all your extra money is going, or how to stop overspending involves more effort . We’ve all had to learn to make lifestyle changes in order to reach financial milestones.

Learn to identify where most of your money is going and ways to cut back. Here are ways to save money fast right now.

Do your nails at home

I have been doing my nails at home for the past couple of months and I’ve saved a ton of money.

Every two weeks I use to get a new set of acrylics, and a pedicure that would equal to $60-$95. Now, I just do my nails at home. It saves me money monthly, and a trip to the salon. I use the time to do my nails “self-care time”, where I’m spending time with myself, and enjoy changing the colors of my nails. It also helps if i break a nail, I just fix it myself, versus running to the salon each time. If you’re focusing on saving money or paying off extra debt, every little bit counts.

Take the time to do your nails at home, your wallet and savings account will thank you in the end.

Do not buy drinks when you go out

Cutting back on drinking saves calories, but it also helps your wallet. When maintaining a social life and going out with friends is important try drinking at home before going out.

Drinks in the east coast are usually anywhere between $14-$17. So a few drinks can literally eat up your money. A good strategy is to drink at home or “pre-game” before going out. Like that you buy less drinks out.

Another strategy is, order a drink and a water. As you sip your drink, sip your water. You’ll drink less throughout the night, avoid the extra calories and wake up the next day hangover free, because your body is fully hydrated.

Do not eat at restaurants

Eating at restaurants is a huge money draining activity. Avoid eating out, and cook at home as much as possible, when saving for a trip, or to have more disposable income. Find activities that involve less restaurants and more movement.

Do not buy trendy clothes

Buying trendy clothes can get expensive. The clothes may seem cheap at first, but overtime they won’t last or go out of style. I recently been doing a lot of decluttering, and found so many clothes I no longer use. They’ve gone out of style, or are cheap pieces that overtime look bad.

Focus on buying quality, timeless pieces. Anytime you want a item, try sleeping on the purchase, see how useful that item might be in a couple of months or years.

Always pay cash…

Paying with cash triggers the pain receptors in the brain– which makes you think harder before spending. When you use plastic or a credit card, you don’t feel it, you don’t see the money coming out of your bank. It’s less painful. Every time you pay using cash, you think more about the purchase, helping you avoid impulse purchases.

Introduce more minimalism into your life

Being more minimalistic means having less items, quality over quantity. Getting only items that you need, clearing up your home, focusing on what’s really important, and what actually makes your life easier.

Invest in three things

Knowledge, Health and Self-Development. It’s important to take care of your body, it’s important to take care of yourself, and is important to develop your self as much as possible. You are your greatest asset, so invest in ways to improve yourself daily.

Quality versus quantity

Invest in quality pieces of clothing or quality items that will last you longer overtime. I love quality handbags and quality pieces that I can reach for and have for years to come. Like blazers, and leather jackets. I’m not interested in having thousands of bags in my closet, what’s important is that I can get the most use out of an item over the years. Invest in well made pieces, and buy less over time.

Make your coffee at home

This is another huge thing that eats up your budget, expensive coffees. Focus on making coffee at home. Get your favorite creamer, turn it into a powerful morning drink (instructions here). A cup at home can cost $.50 vs. a $6 coffee at a coffee shop. Overtime these small habits will help you keep more of your money in your pocket.
