What Is Double Cleansing, and Should You Be Doing It?

Double cleansing is the process of using two different types of cleansers to properly remove dirt and cleanse your skin. Double cleansing removes makeup, dirt and impurities from your skin while maintaining it hydrated and keeping all your good oils in tact. Using a cleansing oil, breaks down make-up, SPF and other dirt from the surface of the skin. The second cleanser will clean much deeper into the pores to remove anything that is left.

Using both an oil-based and a water-based cleanser, will  unclog pores and remove dirt that leads to breakouts and loss of skin elasticity.

How to Double Cleanse:

Option 1: Using a Cleansing Balm

Step 1: To double cleanse apply an oil base cleanser like Clinique Take the Day off cleansing balm and massage it all over skin then rinse off with water or use a warm wet towel to remove it.

Step 2: Use your normal cleanser to wash off your face as you normally would. I love using the  CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser  it is my favorite cleanser because it is gentle, hydrating and contains ceramides to hydrate skin and keep it looking youthful.

Who should Double Cleanse:

If you wear a lot of makeup

Live in Polluted climate

Wear a lot of sunscreen

If you have dry skin

Sensitive skin

Acne prone skin

Double cleansing is perfect for those who wear makeup daily. Not all makeup removing wipes contain the best ingredients and some can overly dry your skin. Removing your makeup with this double cleansing process will leave your skin clean and hydrated. If you live in a polluted climate or a big city a lot of the dirt you encounter daily can also effect your skin so double cleansing can help you get rid of those impurities. This process is also perfect for dry aging skin, because it’s more gentle and wont strip away those oils you truly want to preserve for youthful glowing skin.

Properly removing all makeup, dirt and impurities from your skin will allow your skin to properly repair overnight, your skin will regenerate and you’ll wakeup with plump, youthful skin.

Double cleansing is only necessary at night and depending on your personal needs (makeup, dirt, acne prone skin). You also don’t want to over cleanse your skin because over-washing can lead to dryness and irritation.
