Mini Trip – Atlanta, GA

Visiting Atlanta in January where to stay what to do

I recently visited Atlanta in January 2018 and wanted to share my mini trip experience since I know it would be helpful to those visiting the city.

I have been wanting to visit for some time now and finally got a chance to visit with a girlfriend. Visited at the perfect time, on the Martin Luther King weekend and got to visit his memorial plus some fun places. Totally recommended it, here are the details on the spots we visited.

Hotel Stay – The W Hotel Midtown

Visiting Atlanta in January where to stay what to do

We decided to stay in Midtown Atlanta because it felt like we were right in the middle of the city. This location allowed us to hit major areas of the city as well as being a short uber ride away from Buckhead and Downtown. After much research (trust me, there was research, there are even plenty of Tripadvisor posts on the big decision of if people should stay in Midtown or Buckhead. Don’t believe me read it here).

We stayed at the W Hotel in Midtown and what a great decision that was. Stylish, clean and a super friendly staff, could not complain about the amazing front desk service…everyone was extremely nice.

Friday

Lunch – Marlow’s Tavern

After checking in, we decided to grab a quick bite and stopped at Marlow’s Tavern, the food was delicious and great service.

Early Afternoon Drinks – The W Hotel Midtown Bar

Enjoyed some martini’s at the W Hotel in Midtown bar, they were delicious and the bartenders were extremely nice.

Nightclub – Tongue & Groove

We went to Tonge and Groove which is a nightclub with many rooms that features a mix of music. Hookah is also available which was fun to have while dancing all night. The club was really packed and open until 3am, really busy place but the drinks were great and the crowd was fun.

Saturday

Brunch – TAP

We grabbed brunch at TAP which has the cutest red decor and 2 floors. The weather was a bit cold with a chilly wind so no chance of sitting outside. The mimosas were wonderful and the food was delicious.

Museum – High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art was gorgeous and with many exhibits to explore. This museum is large and provides plenty of art for us art lovers. There was a point were we had to sit down because we were exhausted and couldn’t cover every inch of the museum.

Football Game – Taco Mac

We decided to catch the Falcons game after the museum, everything was full. We finally got a table at Taco Mac, cool laid back bar, awesome drinks.

Dinner – STK Atlanta – Midtown

Dinner at STK Atlanta was extremely fun, we got the best waiter ever, he was extremely friendly and polite. He even gave us a list of places to visit in Atlanta. If ever in STK ask for Alex he is the best. Awesome oysters and delicious drinks, great ambiance and such a romantic setting.

Buckhead

Bars – StageCoach – Buckhead

Decided to head over to Buckhead and attend a speakeasy, on our way we saw Stagecoach and decided to stop in. This place was really full and very casual attire. Everyone was very casual and it seem like a very college type bar but so so much fun.

Speakeasy – Supply and Demand – Buckhead

Supply and Demand is a fun speakeasy you have to enter through the back door. Very cute and extremely packed on a Saturday night, we had an amazing time and the waitstaff was so nice. Loved every moment here. A little difficult to dance because is really crowded but totally worth checking out.

Sunday

Martin Luther King Historical Site

The Martin Luther King Historical site was the highlight of the trip. Definitely and amazing experience and so much history all around.  Extremely happy we made a visit, this is such a beautiful dedicated memorial one will never forget visiting.

We packed as much as possible into a weekend and could not be more happy with the visit. Wonderful people, history and such a clean and well maintained city. Definitely looking forward to our next visit.

Totally recommend a visit to Atlanta, GA. I really advice staying in Midtown close to everything.
